Amy & Mike: Laid-Back Tipi Garden Wedding In Yorkshire Countryside

I had SO much fun being Amy & Mike’s Yorkshire wedding photographer – there were some things I saw at their wedding which I hadn’t seen before and some moments which I doubt I’ll see again, but my lips are sealed! I love a wedding reception at home, there’s a freedom to the wedding planning and the flow of the day that can be missing with big wedding venues.
The couple were so enthusiastic about the pictures, especially natural coverage – my wedding photographer’s dream – so I spent the day blending in with guests and popping up at key moments. One of my favourite shots from the whole day is the photo of Amy & Mike leading their wedding guests through the village, Amy’s arms in the air in a moment of pure joy. The original plan had been for them to ride the horse and trap back to the garden wedding reception, but there’s something so magical about the newlyweds enjoying the procession.
Their garden wedding featured some of the best traditional wedding moments, like the bouquet toss, full of fun and vibrancy. Yet Amy & Mike made sure the wedding fit their personalities: they cut the wedding cake before the meal, still surrounded by guests but it wasn’t a posed moment before the first dance. They had a first dance too, to MGMT, but they got their friends to rush the dance floor before the end of the song. Mike lifted Amy up during the dance and you can see the surprise on everyone’s faces, I LOVED it.

One of the first few pictures I took on the day was the photo below: the church and the field of cows. I was driving around the village when I spotted this view, but it was behind a 6 foot wall, so imagine my delight when I lifted up my camera and saw these beauties sat there.

Amy & Mike chose to have a second photographer which meant they got these awesome shots of Mike getting ready. I particularly love seeing the photos of everyone arriving at the church, there are so many lovely reaction shots and warm embraces which would be missed while I’m still with the bride.
